We arrived at the Dead Sea on a breezy, foggy gray evening. Not exactly the kind of weather we expected to find here in the desert 1412 feet below sea level! But nobody wanted to pass up the chance to float in this water, 34% salt. Because of the salt, you can’t sink. Even people who have no idea how to swim. We proved it!
One of the men brought up chunks of salt crust from the bottom, so we have Dead Sea salt to take home.

This morning in the daylight we could see the beautiful blue-green color of the water, and the high, rugged, rocky mountains surrounding it.
Because of drastically dropping water levels in the Dead Sea, sinkholes are developing in areas formerly covered by the water. We drove by some of them as we drove north along the Dead Sea.
